We’ve got a lot of really great information and insight into the BJJ community here at Beltchecker. One of the more interesting stats is around when people get promoted. The answer is, by a large margin, you are most likely to get promoted in December with January being a distant second place.
The more people that sign up, the more granular and accurate these stats become. As more people join, we’ll be able to see how promotions break down by affiliate, but instructor, by country and a whole other host of interesting breakdowns.
If you are interested in seeing more stats around promotions, check our promotions stats page.
Our first data breach occurred earlier this year. This means that we’re important enough to be hacked. Unfortunately, it also means that we were hacked. But, we’ve taken many steps since then to improve our posture and protect our users. Here is the note we’ve shared with our members.
We are writing to you because of a data breach associated with accounts on our website www.beltchecker.com. Although we are unaware of any actual misuse of your information, we are providing notice to you and other potentially affected customers about the incident.
What Information Was Involved? The breach allegedly included email addresses and password fields. Password fields on www.beltchecker.com are encrypted. It looks like the accounts in question are those created on or before February 2nd, 2020 (member id lower than 5800).
What Are We Doing? Shortly after the attacks, we upgraded our system with a firewall. We continue to work on improving and securing our system on a daily basis. The data breach has been reported to the EU authorities.
What You Can Do? To find out if your account was included in a data breach, you can look it up on haveibeenpwned.com. While your beltchecker account should not be compromised due to encryption of the password field, it is still always a good idea to change your password. We generally recommend using a password manager and not reusing any passwords.
For More Information If there is anything else that we can do to assist you, please feel free to contact us on beltchecker@beltchecker.com at any time.
Our apologies for this. We know it’s not a good look and we are constantly striving to do better. Thank you for your continued support.
We’re excited to show you a new explainer video showing the ease of registering for Beltchecker. It might take you more than 2 minutes to register. But if you have all your information ready, then we’re confident you can be up and running with your full profile quickly. Check out the video here.
One of our goals at Beltchecker is provide a better way to prove that you are the level that your belt shows. And who else knows you better than your own teammates, right? The entire academy at Fight Fit Militia in Sunninghill, South Africa gets right into that spirit by having over 70 members signed up for Beltchecker.
Everything is posted from medals to sparring rounds to competition matches from across their entire student body. They’ve even got their schedule posted in case you want to drop by.
Today was another great milestone for Beltchecker. We hit 15,000 registered users. As of today, we also have a little over 5,000 verified users as well. We are really excited to see the Beltchecker community continue to grow and thrive even through the pandemic. It is incredibly heartening to see this kind of dedication to the sport all over the world.
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new instructional video library.
If you’re an instructor with instructional videos hosted on YouTube, you can add them to your profile. They’ll be listed both on your profile and on the general instructional videos page. People can also search by title, category, and instructor. There is even a simple up/downvote feature. This means that the most liked videos will be displayed more often and trend more towards the top of the list.
Check out the library here and always feel free to add your videos or suggest improvements.
If you are anything like the rest of us, you are constantly wondering when the next BJJ event is. It could be a tournament. It could be a camp. It could be a seminar. It could just be a dream where you actually perform at your best.
Other than that last one, we at Beltchecker have you covered. We’ve recently added a new feature that will allow you to see what BJJ events are going on near you (or not near you if you like to travel).
It’s still in the early stages but we think it can already be pretty useful. Obviously we want to avoid it turning into Facebook’s events section, where there are a million things posted, tons of half-empty stuff and it’s such a mess that nobody ever looks at them. So we have a few things to try and keep the content high quality and focused.
Only fully verified profiles can create an event and they will be listed on the event page.
An event must be properly filled out (image, information etc.) before it can be published
Users can set their RVSP on an event and participating users are listed
Events you are attending will be shown directly on your profile
All users can give event posts a thumbs up or thumbs down. This score—combined with how many participants are confirmed—will determine how visible the event will be on the site. An event with a high score will be listed higher, whereas one with a low score (or lower trust rating) will be almost invisible.
Each events automatically gets its own forum that is only accessible by it’s confirmed participants
Have you ever wanted your own short URL to jiujitsu profile. We have too. So we built it.
Now it’s possible for users and academies to claim shortcut URLs. For example, my original profile link is https://www.belthchecker.com/profile.php?id=8675309. Now my profile link can just be https://www.beltchecker.com/u/jenny.
These shortcuts are available on a first come, first served basis. Get them while they are hot.
If you own a martial arts school and think academy management software is a problem, we might be able to help. We’ve created some software to ensure that your students have an experience that befits a BJJ school. For more information on using the Beltchecker Academy management portal, please reach out.
We’re always updating and improving it. So if you have any features you’d like to see added, drop us a note in the forums.
We’re adding new languages as soon as we have the translators and they have the time.
Beltchecker is run by a community of volunteers and we’re always looking for support. If you’d like to be a translator, moderator, or developer, please reach out.
